Why I Write Without a Comments Section

I didn't have a strong opinion about comments on blog posts until I received one. It was a comment from my father. He suggested I expand on a point in my very first post  with an example. As soon as I saw the comment, I called my dad, and shared the examples I had in mind when I wrote the post. We had a short but enlightening discussion. It helped me sharpen the insight I had shared — and reminded me of the importance of giving clear examples when I write.

The next day, en route to work on Delhi Metro, I caught myself daydreaming about the future when thousands would be reading my blog posts and many of them might leave comments. I imagined each one as an opportunity to engage, to deepen my thinking, and to get feedback that might improve my writing. What a win-win!

Just then, the Delhi Metro gave a sudden jerk. A fellow passenger — eyes glued to his phone, scrolling endlessly — lost balance and crashed into me. My daydream ended, but the small mishap left me with a metaphor.

Do I want to be pushed around through my blog posts? Not really.

I write to clarify my own thinking. The very act of writing is how I get to the heart of what I know — at the moment I write. That's the point.

So, what about people who want to engage? They're most welcome. If you're a friend or family member, you already know how to reach me. If you are new to my little home on the internet, feel free to drop me an email (though I might soon replace it with a form — email IDs on websites are just waiting to be scraped, or so I hear!)

Either way, I'm always happy to connect with anyone who wants to have a meaningful conversation.

Just not in the comments section.
